Male Cosmetic Surgery
Male cosmetic surgery is increasing in popularity as more men want to achieve the body or face they desire. Men may choose to have cosmetic surgery for a number of reasons including looking more masculine or younger, to improve their body contours or to enhance a feature that they aren’t happy with.
At Duchy Hospital our cosmetic surgeons see many men who choose to have body and facial cosmetic surgical procedures including: male breast reduction surgery, liposuction, face lifts, eyelid surgery and nose jobs. We also offer non-surgical treatments including: acne treatment, pigmented lesion treatment and medical based skincare.
Gynaecomastia is a common condition where a man’s breast tissues swell and becomes larger than normal due to age or weight gain and can cause embarrassment. It’s sometimes referred to as enlarged male breast tissue or man boobs.
Gynaecomastia surgery or chest reduction surgery involves removing the excess breast tissue to create a firmer and more masculine chest. Male breast reduction surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic and takes around 60 to 90 minutes.
Blepharoplasty is also called eye bag removal or eyelid surgery depending upon whether the surgery is on the upper or lower area of the skin surrounding the eye. It involves the removal or addition of fatty tissues around the eyes and removing or smoothing skin surrounding the eyes. It treats loose or sagging skin that can result in folds and puffiness in your eyelids and under eyes. Sometimes vision can be improved by a blepharoplasty too.
For male blepharoplasty procedures your surgeon will make the brow positioning and initial eyelid incision lower than in women to create a natural, masculine look.
A blepharoplasty is performed under general anaesthetic and typically takes around one or two hours.
A rhinoplasty involves surgically changing the shape, size and length of your nose to make it smaller, larger, thinner, wider or to remove unwanted bumps. It’s sometimes referred to as a nose job or nose reshaping. A change to your nose can improve the appearance of your whole face.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic and involves modifying or removing bone or cartilage or using a graft of bone and cartilage. It normally takes up to three hours. As well as aesthetically improving your nose a rhinoplasty can also make breathing easier.
Split earlobe repair
A split ear lobe can occur when an earring pulls the skin of your earlobe and splits it into two parts. It can happen gradually over time or as the result of an earring getting caught or snagged often whilst playing contact sports. Men sometimes wear heavy earrings and these can stretch the pierced hole and damage the ear lobe.
A split ear lobe repair is performed under local anaesthetic as an outpatient, normally taking approximately half an hour. It can be successful enough to allow ear piercing of your repaired lobe at a later date.
