Cosmetic Breast Surgery
Breast surgery is one of our most popular cosmetic surgery procedures for women of all ages. A woman’s breasts often change during her lifetime, due to life experiences or natural ageing, and so it follows that she may wish to alter the shape of her breasts to enhance the size and shape of her breasts, reduce them, or to lift them. Breast reduction surgery can also be performed for men with enlarged breast tissue.
Duchy Hospital offers a full cosmetic breast surgery service including breast augmentations, breast reductions and breast uplifts to meet our patient’s breast preferences. We have expert cosmetic surgeons who provide detailed advice and excellent care throughout.
A breast augmentation is also known as a breast enlargement or a boob job. It uses breast implants to enlarge and enhance your breast size so that they appear fuller and firmer. Breast enlargements are the most popular cosmetic surgery for women. A breast augmentation provides both physical and psychological benefits to patients and the new look may give women improved confidence.
Some women have always yearned for bigger breasts. Other women’s breasts change size and shape after childbirth, breastfeeding and weight loss and she may want to restore the lost volume. Some women have asymmetrical breasts.
Your breast surgeon will perform this procedure under general anaesthetic. They will make discreet incisions around your breasts to allow the insertion of breast implants. It takes between one to two hours.
Often age and gravity cause a woman’s breasts to droop. Weight loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding can exacerbate this and the breasts may also lose volume and tone. A breast uplift, also called a mastopexy, aims to restore the volume of your breasts to give you fuller looking breasts and correct your breast and nipple positioning. Your newly rejuvenated breasts may improve your self-confidence.
A breast uplift is performed under general anaesthetic and takes one to two hours. Your cosmetic surgeon will pull your breast tissue up, remove excess skin and reposition your nipple to be in line with the midline of your upper arm.
A breast uplift can be performed together with other breast surgeries. It can be combined with a breast enlargement for fuller and correctly positioned breasts or a breast reduction to achieve smaller pert breasts.
Breast reduction, also referred to as a mammoplasty reduction, surgically removes breast tissue to create smaller, lighter and better proportioned breasts.
Women with large breasts often feel embarrassed or self-conscious at the unwanted attention large breasts bring. They may also suffer from physical problems such as shoulder, back and neck pain, deep shoulder bra strap grooves, poor posture and rashes underneath the breasts. Large breasted women can also be limited in their sporting activities.
A breast reduction is performed under general anaesthetic and typically takes one to two hours. Most women have a breast reduction to seek relief from the issues associated with having large breasts.
Breast reductions are also available to men who have breast tissue that’s too large. The procedure, called gynaecomastia gives men a more masculine chest and may improve their self-esteem.
