Duchy Hospital proudly supporting Macmillan Cancer
Thursday 25 August 2016
Duchy Hospital is assisting in raising funds for The Cove, Macmillan Support Centre at The Royal Cornwall Hospital. More than 21,000 people in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are currently living with cancer; the support centre will provide a dedicated facility not only for those people affected by but also those who are caring for someone with cancer.
The support centre will offer a place away from the wards and busy patient areas for people to gain the information and emotional support required so that no-one need feel alone.
Elizabeth Pender, Marketing and PR Executive at Duchy Hospital says “We’re delighted to be one of the sponsors of the Macmillan Christmas Fair again this year. We have been fundraising for MacMillan Cancer Support at Duchy Hospital for a number of years now with all sorts of events from coffee mornings and cake sales to some brave members of staff shaving their heads for this fantastic cause! It is a charity close to our hearts and also close to our hospital, with the construction of MacMillan Cancer Support’s new centre, The Cove, being built literally just across the road from us.”
The Macmillan Christmas fair is being held on 17th November at The Eden Project, where Elizabeth previously worked as Marketing Manager for 13 years until she left to have her daughter. The Eden Project is more than just plants; it is also a prime venue for events and concerts. Elizabeth says “Eden was a fascinating project to be a part of and provides a great venue and backdrop for MacMillan’s Christmas Fair."
Tickets to the fair are available from September.
