One stop breast clinic

Duchy Hospital has just started a one stop breast clinic for symptomatic women and men. This one-stop clinic offers full breast assessment with clinical and radiological examination by local breast specialists.

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in their life time and the incidence has been on the increase over the last 5 to 10 years, although the treatment and prognosis of the disease has improved tremendously with early diagnosis playing a key role. As such any persistent breast symptoms should always be thoroughly investigated by a specialist team.

Our clinicians are accomplished, caring specialists who have a long-standing commitment to women's health. They apply a multidisciplinary approach to breast health, which includes medical care, educational programs, and support groups. Ensuring the experience at the Duchy one-stop clinic is private, comfortable and dignified is their primary concern.

Our specialists include oncoplastic breast surgeons, dedicated breast imagers, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists and specialised nurses. Their dedication, combined with academic and research capabilities and the full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic technology, results in an outstanding package of care.

Although GP referral remains the optimum approach the Duchy Hospital is keen to facilitate and shorten the process of the patients' journey by introducing the opportunity for self-referral and by cutting down the waiting period between referral and being seen in the clinic thus alleviating an unnecessary period of anxiety.

The one-stop clinic is held every Monday, Tuesday and Friday 12.30 to 13.30  .

All the patients will be seen in the clinic and after initial clinical assessments by the Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon; they will be offered appropriate imaging with ultrasound or mammography alone or in combination. This will be performed at the nearby Mermaid Centre, which can provide in house imaging expertise utilising the most modern digital mammography and high-resolution ultrasound machines.
